tucson an unexpected find
I was just looking for an easy getaway for the weekend to hide from the cold. There's great flight deals so I thought huh...lets see the desert. Unexpectedly, I found Tucson to be far more than just the desert. And all of it, as I set out for it to be, just very easy and enjoyed.
The airport is just a littler bugger so getting your bags and rental is an ease. First stop just 5min away. In my mind the first thing that should be done...sushi...just kidding tacos of course! I suggest Taqueria Pico De Gallo. Now to use your taco power and leather slip ons to do some wandering in the Barrio Viejo area. A culturally rich neighborhood with some great viewing of colorful adobe houses. Then right next to it you can pop into the Museum of Contemporary Art. Then shoot downtown to the contemporary hipster part of town. Take a walk around Congress St., maybe grab a refreshment but save your appetite.
By now you're ready to check into your motel and jump in the pool. And yes I said motel but not just any motel. Hotel McCoy (Not sure why they call it "hotel" its a motel). Great personalty, comfy, a steal with good service and a fantastic breakfast spread. For dinner, just down the street, you're headed to a presidential favorite Mi Nidito. There's always a wait but its worth it. Now to get some rest its gonna be needed.
Up early for check out and the breakfast spread then on to the Finger Rock Trail. A great hike with a nice view of the valley. Wear good shoes, bring your water, chewy bar and enjoy. After that your not done with the desert yet. Your now headed for your glamp stay at Under Canvas. This location has partnered with
Tanque Verde Ranch so you can enjoy their grounds as well. Which means a great pool, a fine diner and lounge bar before tucking away.
Another early morning for the sunrise from your deck and fresh hand delivered coffee. This really is a spectacular way to experience the sunset and sunrise in the desert. But that's just the start to your last day. Your driving north for lunch and a view of Sedona. On your return you'll be flying out of Phoenix for ease. The desert who would have thought. Its a dandy. Enjoy.
